Location

Rio Azul is located on the banks of the Govuro River in Mozambique, overlooking the estuary and is about 2km from the river mouth. The Govuro River mouth is 130km north of Vilanculos.

The Govuro River runs north from Vilanculos and past Inhassoro and enters the sea at Bartholomew Diaz point.

Rio Azul is one of the few venues along the Mozambique coast where one can access deep water with strong currents close to the beach. The point at the river mouth has deep water right at the edge and big game fish move into easy casting distance of the shore looking for food.

There is abundant birdlife in this mangrove region as well as beautiful, un-spoilt beaches to be explored.

Getting There

Flights from Johannesburg to Vilanculos take approximately 2hrs 30 min. On your arrival you will be met by one of the Rio Azul staff members who will assist escort you to the transfer vehicle which is a comfortable air conditioned mini bus. This first leg of your transfer takes you as far as Inhasorro. Transfer time to Inhasorro takes approximately 1hr 15 mins. From Inhasorro you will jump into an open game viewing vehicle which will take you along the beach to the lodge. The beach transfer takes about 30 minutes. The total transfer time from Vilanculos to Rio Azul takes approx. 1hr 45 minutes
